Keryg exists to help people understand the Bible through faithful study, careful teaching, and thoughtful apologetics. Everything we publish is grounded in the historic Christian faith and points people to Jesus Christ.

The beliefs below are the essential doctrines that guide our work. They do not answer every theological question. They lay the biblical foundation Keryg is built on.

Scripture

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the supreme authority for Christian faith and life. It is trustworthy in all that it teaches, and it reveals God's character, His plan of redemption, and His will for humanity.

God

We believe there is one eternal God who exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each person is fully God, sharing the same divine nature while remaining personally distinct.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life. He died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will return to establish His kingdom.

Humanity and Sin

We believe every person is created in the image of God and carries inherent dignity and worth. Through sin, humanity became separated from God, and no human effort can restore that relationship.

Salvation

We believe salvation is God's gift of grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. His death and resurrection are the only sufficient sacrifice for sin. All who trust in Him are forgiven, reconciled to God, and given eternal life.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer. He produces spiritual growth, equips the Church for service, and empowers Christians to live in a way that reflects Christ.

The Church

We believe the Church is the body of Christ, made up of all who have placed their faith in Him. Believers are called to worship God, proclaim the gospel, encourage one another, and serve the world in love.

Christ's Return

We believe Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly. He will judge the living and the dead, establish His eternal kingdom, and bring God's plan of redemption to its complete fulfillment.

At Keryg, we believe the Bible should be read carefully, faithfully, and in context. Our goal is not to collect verses but to understand what God communicated through the biblical authors, and how those truths apply today.

Sincere Christians sometimes reach different conclusions on secondary issues. For that reason, we handle Scripture with humility, accuracy, and respect, letting the biblical text guide our conclusions rather than asking it to support ideas we already hold.

Our Principles

1. Scripture Interprets Scripture

The clearest way to understand the Bible is to read it as a unified whole. Difficult passages should be interpreted alongside clearer passages that address the same subject. No single verse should be isolated from the broader teaching of Scripture.

2. Context Comes First

Every passage is read within its immediate, literary, historical, and biblical context. Before asking, "What does this verse mean to me," we first ask, "What did it mean to its original audience." Understanding the original setting helps us apply Scripture faithfully today.

3. The Original Languages Matter

The Bible was written primarily in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Reliable translations faithfully communicate God's Word, but the original languages sometimes provide added clarity or reveal nuances that are not immediately apparent in English. When helpful, Keryg explains these words and compares how respected translations render them.

4. Literary Genre Matters

The Bible contains many forms of literature, including history, poetry, wisdom, prophecy, parables, letters, and apocalyptic writing. Each genre should be read according to its literary style. Poetry should not be interpreted like historical narrative, nor should symbolic visions be treated the same way as straightforward instruction.

5. History and Culture Matter

The Bible was written across many centuries within real historical cultures. Knowledge of geography, customs, languages, archaeology, and the political and religious world of the biblical authors often illuminates difficult passages without changing the message of Scripture. Historical context serves Scripture. It does not replace it.

6. Christ Is Central to Scripture

The Bible tells one unified story of God's work to redeem humanity through Jesus Christ. Both the Old and New Testaments point toward God's plan of redemption fulfilled in Christ. This does not mean every verse is directly about Jesus, but it does mean the Bible's central message finds its fulfillment in Him.

7. Essential and Secondary Doctrines

Historic Christianity has always distinguished between essential doctrines and matters where faithful believers reach different conclusions. On essential doctrines, Keryg presents the historic Christian position. On secondary matters, we explain the major biblical viewpoints fairly, present the strongest arguments for each, and identify clearly where Christians have historically disagreed. Our goal is understanding before persuasion.

8. Truth Above Tradition

We value the wisdom of the historic Church and learn from Christians throughout history. At the same time, no denomination, theologian, ministry, or tradition stands above Scripture. Every interpretation remains open to examination in light of the biblical text.

9. Questions Are Welcome

Studying Scripture often raises difficult questions. Rather than avoiding them, Keryg encourages thoughtful investigation, respectful discussion, and careful examination of the biblical evidence. Honest questions, approached with humility and a desire for truth, strengthen faith rather than weaken it.

Biblical Texts

Keryg includes Bible translations obtained through both public-domain and openly licensed translations that may be stored and displayed within the platform, and licensed translations provided through official Bible providers and APIs, used according to their respective licensing agreements. Every Bible translation is displayed in accordance with its copyright and licensing requirements.

Commentaries and Study Resources

Our study resources draw from respected Christian commentaries, historical reference works, original-language datasets, and other biblical research tools that are either in the public domain, openly licensed for redistribution, or used under the permissions and terms provided by their publishers. Where required, proper attribution is maintained.

Original Languages

Where appropriate, Keryg references the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek using trusted linguistic datasets and lexical resources to help explain the meaning of biblical words and passages. These references are meant to illuminate the biblical text, not replace careful reading of Scripture.

Our Editorial Process

Draft. Content is researched and prepared using Scripture alongside historical, linguistic, and scholarly resources.

Review. The draft is examined for biblical accuracy, theological consistency, historical context, clarity, factual accuracy, and proper attribution where required. Supporting references are verified before publication.

Approval. Only content that has completed editorial review is approved for publication. Material that remains under review, or requires further work, is not made publicly available.

Publication. Approved content is published to Keryg and becomes available to readers. When significant corrections or improvements are made, published material may be updated to reflect the latest editorial review.

Ongoing Maintenance

Biblical scholarship continues to grow through manuscript research, archaeology, historical studies, and language research. As better information becomes available, Keryg reviews existing content and updates it where necessary, while preserving the integrity of Scripture. Where appropriate, substantial revisions may include update notes so readers understand what has changed.

Accuracy Over Speed

We value accuracy more than publishing quickly. If a topic requires additional research or review, publication may be delayed until sufficient evidence has been examined. Our aim is to produce resources readers can trust for years, not content that simply appears first.

Use of Technology

Keryg uses technology to assist with research, organization, and content preparation. Technology does not replace editorial judgment. Every published resource is expected to undergo human review before being approved for public release.

Corrections and Updates

Despite careful review, mistakes can occur. When factual, historical, biblical, or editorial errors are identified, we correct them promptly. We welcome thoughtful feedback that helps improve the accuracy and clarity of our resources.

Our Standard

Why the Original Languages Matter

The Bible was not originally written in English. The books of the Bible were written over many centuries in three primary languages:

• Hebrew, the language of most of the Old Testament.
• Aramaic, used in portions of the Old Testament, particularly parts of Daniel and Ezra.
• Greek, the language of the entire New Testament.

Modern Bible translations faithfully communicate God's Word, but every language contains words, expressions, and cultural ideas that cannot always be represented perfectly in another. Studying the original languages can clarify meaning and deepen our understanding of Scripture.

Why Keryg Includes Original Language Tools

Our goal is not to turn every reader into a Hebrew or Greek scholar. Instead, we want to make these resources understandable and accessible to everyone. Throughout Keryg, you will find language tools that help explain important biblical words, phrases, and concepts when they contribute to a better understanding of the text.

What You'll Find

Hebrew

Hebrew is the primary language of the Old Testament. Keryg provides tools to explore Hebrew words, meanings, grammar, pronunciation, word roots, and occurrences throughout Scripture. These resources help readers see how important themes develop across the Old Testament.

Aramaic

Although only a small portion of the Bible was written in Aramaic, these passages provide valuable historical and theological insight. Where appropriate, Keryg includes language information for these passages alongside the surrounding biblical context.

Greek

The New Testament was written in Koine Greek, the common language of the eastern Roman Empire during the first century. Greek often provides additional insight into verb tenses, sentence structure, emphasis, and key theological terms. Where this helps clarify a passage, Keryg explains the language in plain English, without requiring readers to know Greek.

Word Studies

Many biblical words carry a range of meanings depending on their context. Rather than assigning a single definition to every occurrence, Keryg explains words within the specific passage being studied. Whenever possible, word studies include the original spelling, transliteration, pronunciation, meaning within the passage, other significant occurrences, and related biblical themes.

Strong's Numbers

Keryg uses Strong's numbers as reference tools to help readers locate Hebrew and Greek words across Scripture. Strong's numbers are indexes, not definitions. They make it easier to compare related passages and explore how biblical words are used throughout Scripture.

Grammar and Syntax

Sometimes a passage becomes clearer when we understand how a sentence is constructed in Hebrew or Greek. Where appropriate, Keryg explains grammatical features such as verb tense, participles, imperatives, conjunctions, and sentence structure. These explanations are included only when they help illuminate the meaning of the passage.

Comparing Bible Translations

No single English translation can capture every nuance of the original languages. For this reason, Keryg occasionally compares multiple translations where wording differs in a way that affects interpretation. These comparisons are meant to help readers understand the text more fully, not to suggest that one translation is always superior.

Our Approach

Original-language resources are meant to support Bible study, not replace it. We avoid building doctrine on isolated word definitions or grammatical details without considering the broader context of Scripture. Language studies should always be understood within the immediate passage, the literary context, the historical setting, and the teaching of Scripture as a whole.

Keryg's language tools are built using trusted biblical language resources, freely available datasets, and appropriately licensed materials. These include lexical databases, morphology datasets, and scholarly resources that are used in accordance with their respective licences and attribution requirements.

Building Keryg on Trusted Biblical Resources

Keryg exists to help people study and understand the Bible with confidence. To achieve that, we carefully select the resources that power the platform, ensuring they are used lawfully, ethically, and in accordance with their respective licences.

Our library combines public-domain works and officially licensed resources. Some are freely available, others are provided under licence from their publishers. Every resource is reviewed before being integrated into Keryg, and we provide appropriate attribution wherever required. All trademarks and copyrights remain the property of their respective owners.

Bible Translations

Keryg supports multiple Bible translations to help readers compare renderings and better understand the biblical text. Depending on the translation, Scripture is provided through either:

• public-domain or openly licensed translations that may be stored and displayed within the platform, or
• officially licensed Bible providers and APIs that permit access under their licensing agreements.

We respect the copyright and licensing requirements of every translation we use.

Public Domain and Openly Licensed Translations

King James Version (KJV). The King James Version is in the public domain.

American Standard Version (ASV). The American Standard Version (1901) is in the public domain.

World English Bible (WEB). Scripture quotations marked WEB are taken from the World English Bible. The World English Bible is based on the American Standard Version and is released for free public use.

Berean Standard Bible (BSB). Scripture quotations marked BSB are taken from the Berean Standard Bible. The Berean Standard Bible is made available for free distribution by the Berean Bible Translation Committee. Copyright and attribution requirements are observed in accordance with the publisher's terms.

Open English Bible (OEB). Scripture quotations marked OEB are taken from the Open English Bible. The Open English Bible is released under an open licence for public use.

Licensed Bible Translations

Some translations are provided through licensed Bible services rather than stored directly within Keryg. These may include, but are not limited to:

• New International Version (NIV)
• New Living Translation (NLT)
• New American Standard Bible (NASB)

These translations remain the copyright of their respective publishers and are displayed only in accordance with the licensing agreements under which they are provided.

Bible API

Some Bible translations are delivered through API.Bible. Bible text supplied through API.Bible is used in accordance with API.Bible's licensing terms and the copyright requirements of each translation's publisher.

Biblical Commentaries

Keryg incorporates respected Christian commentaries to help explain the historical and theological context of Scripture. Many of these works are in the public domain and have served Christians for generations. Examples include:

• Matthew Henry's Commentary
• John Gill's Exposition of the Bible
• Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary

These resources supplement Scripture but do not replace it.

Original Language Resources

To help readers understand the meaning of biblical words and phrases, Keryg references trusted Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek resources. These include lexical, morphological, and linguistic datasets, drawn from freely available projects and appropriately licensed sources. Where required, attribution is provided in accordance with the licence of each resource.

STEP Bible

Original-language data and biblical study resources are provided in part through the STEP Bible project, developed by Tyndale House, Cambridge. Used in accordance with the STEP Bible licence and attribution requirements.

Strong's Numbering System

Strong's numbers are used solely as reference identifiers to assist Bible study and original-language exploration.

Cross References and Study Data

Keryg uses biblical cross-reference datasets and study resources that help connect related passages throughout Scripture, drawn from freely available resources where permitted. These resources enable readers to explore how the Bible interprets itself, while maintaining appropriate attribution where required.

Historical and Research Resources

Where appropriate, Keryg references historical information, archaeological discoveries, geographical data, and scholarly research to provide additional context for biblical passages. These materials are used to illuminate the historical setting of Scripture without replacing its authority.

Artificial Intelligence

Keryg uses artificial intelligence as a research and editorial assistance tool. AI may assist with organizing information, identifying cross references, formatting content, improving readability, and supporting editorial workflows.

AI is not treated as an authority on biblical doctrine. All published material is expected to undergo human editorial review before publication.

Copyright and Attribution

We are committed to respecting the intellectual property rights of publishers, ministries, translators, and organizations whose resources contribute to Keryg. Where licences require attribution, copyright notices, or acknowledgements, those requirements are honoured.

Cloudflare
Cloudflare helps protect Keryg and improve website performance, including content delivery, caching, DNS, security, and protection against malicious traffic.

Bible Services

API.Bible
Some Bible translations available within Keryg are provided through API.Bible. These translations are accessed under the licensing agreements established by their publishers and Bible APIs. Availability may vary depending on each translation's licensing requirements.

Website Analytics

Microsoft Clarity
Keryg uses Microsoft Clarity to better understand how visitors interact with the website. Clarity provides features such as anonymous session recordings, heatmaps, and user interaction analytics that help identify usability issues and improve the overall experience. Clarity is used to improve the platform, not to identify individual visitors.

External Content

Introduction

Keryg is a public website that does not require an account. We aim to provide Bible study resources while collecting as little personal information as possible.

What Keryg Stores

Keryg does not intentionally collect or store names, email addresses, user profiles, account information, server-side reading history, or payment information. The website stores a small versioned privacy-preference record in your browser so it can remember whether you allowed optional analytics, along with other Keryg-owned browser preferences used by the site.

Optional Microsoft Clarity Analytics

With explicit permission, Keryg uses Microsoft Clarity to understand general website usage, such as page interactions, clicks, scrolling, device information, and session activity. Analytics is disabled until you allow it. Keryg does not use Clarity's Identify API and does not send names, email addresses, account identifiers, or persistent Keryg identifiers to Clarity. Advertising tracking is not used.

Cookies and Browser Storage

Keryg does not store the consent record in a cookie. When analytics is allowed, Microsoft Clarity may use its own cookies subject to the consent settings. You can reject analytics, withdraw consent, or use Privacy Settings to clear Keryg-owned data from this browser. JavaScript cannot clear third-party cookies that the browser does not expose to Keryg.

Children's Privacy

Microsoft Clarity is not used on Keryg's child-directed Bible books section. Keryg does not intentionally collect personal information from children.
